Creating great educational places and spaces
Design quality and delivery guide
QIS BGA will add a Quality Design and Delivery Guide to its suite of Guidance Documents early in 2026.
The Guide will support school leaders in how to participate in the design, delivery, and occupation of a capital project so that a value-for-money outcome is achieved.
Like all QIS BGA Guides, the Quality Design and Delivery will be developed using a grounded theory approach. This is where research and other guides on the topic are mixed in with the wisdom and experience of educators, business managers, and design professionals to develop a guide relevant to the Queensland Independent School context.
A document that has been a catalyst for the Quality Design and Delivery Guide is the Royal Institute of British Architects' Plan of Work, which provides eight (8) process steps related to strategic definition, design, construction, and activation related to a building project. While the Guide is being developed, the conceptual representation of the Plan of Work has been adapted to demonstrate how QIS BGA does / may play a role at each stage of work to uphold its values of Service, Partnership and Trust and support schools to achieve the following “sound educational planning” objectives:
- Make provision for needs arising from new demographic and student enrolment trends;
- Align the proposed project with the school's strategic plan and site master plan.
- Construct spaces that are fit for purpose (i.e. are aligned to educational philosophy / pedagogical approach) and functionally inter-relate with each other.
